A puppy that fell into a 100ft deep silo was rescued by firefighters in Missouri.

Footage shows the volunteers building an Arizona vortex above the hole to begin the extraction at an abandoned Cementland site in Saint Louis on April 9.

When the equipment was installed, a team member was lowered down the narrow hole.

The emergency responder slowly descended and put a harness around the pooch before he was pulled up again with the dog.

The canine dashed away into the field outside where animal services officers were waiting.

The team took the pooch to the local animal control centre for evaluation.
