A massive warehouse fire has released toxic fumes into the air in Chile, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

Footage shows a huge inferno and a towering column of thick smoke rising over Osorno on Monday, April 14.

Authorities said the fire involved significant amounts of flammable materials, including plastics, making it challenging for firefighters to contain.

Responders used specialised equipment, including telescopic ladder trucks. They drew water directly from the Rahue River to maintain a steady supply to combat the flames.

One firefighter was reportedly hospitalised with second-degree burns.

Authorities continue to assess the damage and investigate the cause of the fire.

The incident prompted a review of safety protocols and storage conditions in facilities that handle hazardous materials.
