This is the shocking moment two tourists crashed their rented motorcycle over a road barrier in Thailand.

The holidaymakers were navigating a turn on the highway when they lost control of their two-wheeler on the island of Phuket.

Dashcam footage shows the pair navigating the curve with other motorcyclists. However, they struck the concrete barrier while swerving and were flung over onto the hillside.

The pair were later found injured and alive in a beachside forest in the crash on April 19. Paramedics took them to hospital for first aid and they were released after recovering.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
