A huge fire engulfed a luxury hotel in northern Thailand.

The inferno broke out in a spa room at the Dhara Dhevi Hotel in Chiang Mai at 2 am local time today.

Video shows massive flames swallowing the building, which was designed to replicate heritage sites of Thailand's Lanna Kingdom.

Firefighters arrived and successfully brought the fire under control by 3:50 am local time. They further doused the structure to prevent reignition.

Deputy Governor Siwakorn Buapong later inspected the scene with government agencies.

He said: 'The fire hazard was classified as a level one crisis. Authorities will investigate the cause of the incident.'

Fire officials said the blaze had spread quickly due to the partial wooden construction of the spa area.

No injuries or casualties were reported from the fire as the building was empty at the time.

The five-star Dhara Dhevi Hotel was built in 2002 and sits on 60.5 acres of land. It was designed to replicate historical sites and heritage of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, despite disapproval from some academics.

The hotel had temporarily closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A petition for a rehabilitation plan was filed in June 2020. However, it was dismissed by the Court of Appeals, resulting in employee layoffs and the hotel's declaration of bankruptcy.
