But even there, they found no safety. Three weeks ago, an Israeli airstrike hit the schoolyard while six-year-old Ghaya Dababish was playing on a swing. A piece of shrapnel struck her right arm, causing an injury so severe that doctors had no choice but to amputate it. Ghaya was playing when the explosion happened her father, 35-year-old Ahmed Dababish, told Anadolu. She, who was right-handed, is now learning to use her left hand for writing and other daily tasks. Her father said the physical and emotional toll has been devastating. The six‑year‑old said she wished for a prosthetic arm. The airstrike on the school, where displaced Palestinians had taken shelter, killed at least 27 people and injured more than 70, according to local health authorities. Many of the victims were children.
