This is the dramatic moment police arrest a suspected drug dealer in Florida.

The accused distributor was caught eight hours after a woman died from an alleged fentanyl overdose on Wednesday morning, April 23.

Police launched an investigation and discovered messages linking the victim to Trevin Smith, who had allegedly sold her the drugs and was attempting to sell her more.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office arranged a meeting with Trevin at a 7-Eleven in Ormond Beach, posing as the victim.

When he arrived, Trevin attempted to flee on foot after spotting the detectives.

Bodycam footage shows a police officer running towards the suspect's location alongside his K9 partner. He was arrested following a brief chase that ended inside a nearby gas station and convenience store.

While fleeing, Trevin discarded his phone and a small bag of fentanyl, both of which were recovered by investigators.

The overdose investigation remains ongoing.

Trevin now faces multiple charges, including the sale and delivery of fentanyl, resisting arrest, use of a communication device to commit a felony, driving with a suspended licence, and child neglect.

His toddler was found in the back seat of his car without a child safety seat or proper restraints.

Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid used medically for pain management but is often illegally manufactured and associated with overdose deaths due to its potency.
