Thousands of Rainbow Trout Stocked at Fort McCoy Lakes in Wisconsin
On April 23, 2025, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) brought a wave of excitement to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, by stocking approximately 15,000 rainbow trout across several lakes and ponds, including Suukjak Sep Lake on North Post. The effort was carried out by the USFWS Genoa National Fish Hatchery, based in Genoa, Wis.
Rainbow trout are a beloved game fish among anglers, and their addition enhances the fishing opportunities throughout Fort McCoy’s waterways. This stocking event supports both recreational fishing and ecological balance within the installation’s aquatic habitats.
The stocking initiative highlights Fort McCoy’s ongoing commitment to conservation, outdoor recreation, and community engagement. Anglers can look forward to an even more rewarding fishing season thanks to the collaboration between Fort McCoy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
