On April 28, at Hangzhou Amusement Park, the Giant Swing ride suddenly halted at its highest point, leaving several riders hanging upside down for about one minute.

The stranded passengers were mostly part of a group of middle school students. Some reported discomfort due to blood rushing to their heads while suspended. Afterwards, a few individuals experienced symptoms such as dizziness, weak legs, and even vomiting, though no serious injuries were reported.

Park staff explained that the unexpected pause was triggered by the ride’s safety mechanism, which activated because the passengers on both sides had exactly equal weight—a “one-in-ten-thousand chance” event. The swing operates like a balance scale; typically, it briefly pauses at the top before swinging based on weight imbalance. In this case, perfect balance caused the system to stop for around one minute mid-air.

A park official stated that once the ride was confirmed to be functioning properly, staff switched to manual mode and slowly brought the ride down, allowing all passengers to return safely. No injuries occurred during the incident, and affected guests can contact the park for assistance if they feel unwell. The park has committed to covering any related medical expenses.
