Storyline: Rising demand drives sales growth for Chinese robot manufacturers [Voice_over] Chinese industrial and service robot makers have seen an increase in new orders this year, driven by demand from the new energy vehicle, consumer electronic and shipbuilding sectors. At a robot factory in Shanghai, robots are making other robots. Here, more than 100 industrial robots and desktop robotic arms are undergoing last-minute tests before being shipped off to customers. The factory's manager says they witnessed a 160 percent increase in orders in Q1 this year as more and more industries are incorporating robots into their products. [Sound_bite] Tian Yongxin, General Manager, Robotics Division, robot manufacturer in Shanghai: "The overall growth is quite obvious, especially from sectors like 3C products, new energy and smart manufacturing. They continue to increase their investment on the automation upgrades, which brings us impressive sales growth." [Voice_over] Elsewhere in China, a robot dog designed for kids aged 12 and under has become a big hit in the toy market. The four-legged robodog can sing, dance, and make video calls. The VP of the company that makes the toy says sales have more than doubled already this year, pushing their factory into overtime to meet demand. [Sound_bite] Sun Lixiao, vice president, a robot company in Nanjing: "In the first quarter of this year, our sales has increased by 150 percent. Now, the factory is working overtime to keep up with demand. Our total sales is expected to grow by two to three times this year." [Voice_over] Cleaning robots are another key category in the service robot market. From robot vacuums to lawn mowers and window cleaning robots, these devices are quickly becoming adopted in modern homes. One company that makes robot vacuums from the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou says their products are popular in markets that value innovative gadgets. [Sound_bite] Meng Jia, Head of Research and Development, Robot Vacuum Division, smart home appliance company in Suzhou City: "The user demand has been rising. Overseas consumers, typically those from developed countries, show a strong willingness to pay for innovative products and technologies." [Voice_over] The latest data from the country's State Taxation Administration shows that the sales revenues of Chinese industrial robot and service robot companies went up by 12.4 percent and 55.4 percent respectively in the first quarter of the year.
