According to the Media Office of the Gaza government, over 65,000 children are facing the threat of death due to hunger in a region where Israel has closed border crossings for more than two months, blocking the entry of food and humanitarian aid. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has officially declared Gaza a "starvation zone" due to Israel's blockade and genocide. Amid a severe shortage of basic food items, particularly flour, and an increasingly dire famine, Palestinians are forced to grind legumes and grains to make bread. In Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinians have been lining up in front of grain mills, desperate to turn their remaining lentils, beans, and other legumes into flour. With hunger intensifying in the region, people have even resorted to grinding pasta and rice to make bread. Since March 2, Israel has kept Gaza crossings closed to food, medical, and humanitarian aid, deepening an already humanitarian crisis in the enclave, according to the government, human rights, and international reports. Nearly 53,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children.
