ARTESIA WELLS, Texas — Biologists at the Chaparral Wildlife Management Area recently welcomed a special sight: five newborn bobcat kittens, discovered inside a cattleguard where their mother has chosen to give birth for the third year in a row.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife team captured photos and deployed game cameras to observe the kittens before the mother relocated them, a move that typically happens once their eyes begin to open.

Officials reminded the public to avoid disturbing the site, noting that the mother will return and care for the young.

The rare find contributes to the area’s ongoing wildlife monitoring and conservation efforts.
