Los Angeles, United States - May 20, 2025 05/19/2025 11:30 pm GMT-0700 DOWNEY, Calif. – The San Bernardino Police Department was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle on the westbound 210 Freeway in Rialto. The chase continued westbound, crossing into Upland, where the suspect exited onto Mountain Avenue and drove south. As the suspect continued southbound on Mountain Avenue into Chino Hills, he turned back northbound. In the course of the pursuit, the suspect struck a patrol unit in the vicinity of Chino Hills and Ontario, resulting in charges of assault on a police officer, driving a stolen vehicle, and possibly being armed. Continuing northbound on Mountain Avenue, the suspect entered the westbound 10 Freeway in Upland. Subsequently, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) from Rancho Cucamonga and Baldwin Park took over the pursuit. The suspect eventually came to a stop in Downey, in a parking lot near Firestone Boulevard and Woodruff Avenue. The suspect barricaded himself inside the vehicle, obstructing all windows, which hindered officers' visibility. In response, the Downey Police Department deployed a Bearcat armored vehicle and a drone to assist CHP. CHP officers issued multiple commands for the suspect to exit the vehicle, but he refused to comply. Officers then fired several less-lethal rounds at the windows. Eventually, the suspect exited the vehicle and was taken into custody by the CHP.
