Papua tribes go to war leaving two dead and hundreds injured
Papua tribes clashed leaving two dead and hundreds injured in Indonesia.
Footage shows a battalion of tribesmen with painted faces and wooden bows marching in Puncak Jaya in Central Papua on June 5.
Authorities said two Papua tribes supporting rival political candidates in the regency clashed over a political dispute, setting fire to homes in the Mulia district.
Two people, identified as Gum Enumbi, 48, and Piki Murib, 17, were killed.
AKBP Achmad Fauzan, Puncak Jaya Police Chief, said: 'The attack between the political supporters has resulted in 215 injuries and two deaths. They could not accept that each side would support the opposing candidate.'
He added police were still stationed in the area to prevent more skirmishes from breaking out.
Officials urged residents to be vigilant as the conflict between the tribes remained tense.
