Caught on Camera: K-9 Max Finds Gun Used in Shooting
SLIDELL, La. — A tense manhunt for a weapon used to shoot at Slidell police officers came to an end late Monday night, thanks to the sharp nose of K-9 Max.
Since early Sunday morning, officers had been searching for the firearm allegedly used by Corey Griffin during a domestic violence incident in which he opened fire on responding officers. Griffin reportedly taunted detectives, saying, “You’ll never find it.”
But K-9 Max proved him wrong. In a now-viral video, Max and his handler, Officer Zach Colgan, are seen locating the weapon, drawing praise across social media.
“Good boiiiii Max!” the department wrote in celebration of the K-9’s critical role in the investigation. The video, which includes moments of Officer Colgan speaking to Max in Dutch, has helped turn the four-legged officer into a local sensation.
No officers were injured in the shooting, and Griffin remains in custody.
