JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Last week, detectives from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in Florida were en route to serve a warrant when they came upon the aftermath of a serious crash. An SUV had overturned on Collins Road near Shindler Drive, prompting them to stop and help.

Without hesitation, the officers jumped into action to free two individuals trapped inside the vehicle. JSO Patrol Medic Brooke Mallory, who was assigned to the detail for safety, used her emergency medical training to assist the victims until Jacksonville Fire and Rescue arrived.

The couple suffered lacerations and other injuries but are expected to recover. Detectives later continued their mission and successfully served the warrant.

Officials say quick thinking—and seat belts—likely prevented a more tragic outcome.
