LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Jefferson County Animal Control Officers turned an unusual call into a heartwarming mission when they rescued several ducklings trapped in a swimming pool at Westwood Green Apartments.

Animal Control Officers Moore and Rivera responded to the call and discovered the ducklings were too small to climb out of the pool. Using a crate and patience, they carefully retrieved each duckling. The bigger challenge came afterward—reuniting them with their mother, who refused to be carried.

With creativity and compassion, the officers led a slow-paced “neighborhood parade,” carrying the ducklings while the mother duck followed behind. The team safely escorted the family to a nearby pond, where they were joyfully reunited.

“Sometimes, protecting and serving means making sure every family, feathered or otherwise, finds their way home,” the sheriff’s office shared.
