BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A potentially deadly incident was averted early May 25 when Sgt. McKim of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office stopped a wrong-way driver on Highway 36 who had reached speeds of 110 mph.

Authorities said the driver was traveling in the wrong direction just after 5 a.m., forcing multiple vehicles to swerve to avoid a head-on crash. Thanks to Sgt. McKim’s swift response, no injuries were reported.

The driver was arrested without incident and faces charges including driving under the influence, drug possession, and several traffic violations. The Boulder Police Department assisted with the stop.

The sheriff’s office reminds drivers to call 911 immediately if they spot a vehicle driving the wrong way.
