Activists were escorted away during a protest in Italy calling for greater support for domestic violence victims.

Two demonstrators from the movement Bruciamo Tutto, or 'We Burn Everything', staged the action outside the Department for Regional Affairs on June 19 at around 5:15 am.

One of them stapled a banner showing the distribution of anti-violence centres across Italian provinces. The map reportedly highlighted the lack of facilities in many regions.

Within a minute, two building staff members intervened, reportedly tackling and detaining the protesters.

They were held on the street for an hour before being taken to the Trevi-Campo Marzio police station at 6:30 am. After five hours, they were released following formal charges.

The activists said they had attempted a similar peaceful protest on June 13 but were prevented from putting up their map.

This time, they chose a different hour, stating they were determined to assert their right to share what they described as 'vital information about a systemic issue'.

Bruciamo Tutto claimed that to access the Reddito di Liberta (Freedom Income), individuals must first be certified by a local anti-violence centre. However, they argued that many regions lack a sufficient number of these facilities.

The group is calling for government recognition of the issue and urgent action.

Reddito di Liberta, or the Freedom Income, is an Italian government assistance programme that provides financial support to women who are victims of domestic violence, helping them move towards safety and independence.
