Over 100 Drivers Fail to Yield to Emergency Vehicles in Manitoba
LAC DU BONNET, Manitoba — The Lac Du Bonnet Fire Department is urging drivers to obey emergency vehicle laws after more than 100 vehicles failed to pull over during a response to a two-vehicle crash on June 20.
In a video shared by the department, only a handful of drivers yielded to a fire truck with lights and sirens activated. Officials said the same issue occurred with multiple responding units.
Under Manitoba law, drivers must pull to the right curb and stop when an emergency vehicle approaches with lights and sirens. On one-way roads, drivers should pull to the nearest curb.
With summer traffic increasing, the department reminded the public that failure to yield not only delays emergency response but also puts responders and other road users at risk.
