Car hops over sinkhole
At around 3:00 PM on June 23, a sudden road collapse occurred on Yingxin Road in Yun County, Lincang, Yunnan Province.
Surveillance footage from the scene shows that a black Lexus sedan drove over the affected section of the road just before the collapse occurred, forming a large sinkhole. Due to its relatively high speed, the Lexus did not fall into the pit when the collapse happened but instead sped over it. However, its rear wheels struck the edge of the sinkhole, causing the vehicle to bounce and then land heavily.
Eyewitnesses reported that the sinkhole appeared to be approximately 3 meters in diameter and about 2 meters deep, with underground water seeping into it. The front end and the driver’s side door of the Lexus were damaged from the impact, and the left rear tire was completely blown out, but the driver was unharmed.
A staff member from the Yun County government stated that the preliminary cause of the collapse was likely the recent heavy rainfall, which eroded the soil around the drainage pipes and led to the sinkhole. No vehicles fell into the pit, and there have been no reports of injuries. As of 4:00 PM on the 23rd, the affected section of road has been completely closed off for repair work.
