Caribbean Netherlands: Activists block rails in Rotterdam port to protest NATO, Israeli military shipments
ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - JUNE 24, 2025: Activists from the "Geef Tegengas" (Push Back) movement blocked a railway leading to the Port of Rotterdam on Tuesday, June 24, protesting the port’s involvement in NATO logistics and the transport of F-35 fighter jet components from Israel. Protesters criticized the port’s role in facilitating military shipments to Israel, particularly those connected to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. They demanded a comprehensive arms and trade embargo on Israel and an immediate suspension of trade with regions accused of committing human rights violations. The protesters, who had chained themselves to the railway tracks, later were removed by police officers. The demonstration coincided with the opening day of the NATO summit in the Netherlands. The Israeli army has launched a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing over 56,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Israel claims that the onslaught aims to return around 50 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and dismantle the Palestinian resistance group. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Reporting by Fadel Dawod // Writing by Mustafa Tuncer
