Man slips into platform gap while boarding moving train, officials pull him to safety
A passenger trying to board a moving train slipped into the gap between the platform and the coach, but the swift and coordinated response of the Railway Protection Force helped prevent a potentially tragic accident.
The incident occurred in Chitrakoot Dham Karwi Station, Chitrakoot district, in northern India's Uttar Pradesh, on June 24.
The visuals from the scene show a man attempting to board a moving train with a bag of goods balanced on his head, just as the train is about to depart the station. While he manages to get his belongings onto the train, he loses his footing while trying to climb aboard himself and falls dangerously close to the gap between the train and the platform. In a matter of seconds, two alert RPF officers rush to the spot and pull him to safety, preventing a potentially fatal accident.
Speaking to Newslions, Inspector Rajendra Kumar, Chitrakoot Dham, Karwi station, Uttar Pradesh, stated that, the incident occurred at around 6:56 pm on Tuesday, as the Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express (Train No. 12447) was departing the station, a passenger attempted to board the moving train while carrying luggage. In the attempt, he lost his balance and slipped dangerously into the gap between the train and the platform.
On duty for Amavasya Mela security arrangements, Constable Ranjan Prasad Pandey—who had earlier been honoured as Employee of the Month for saving another life—acted immediately and began pulling the man to safety. Due to the passenger’s weight, the rescue proved difficult. At that critical moment, Inspector Rajendra Kumar, who was present on the platform managing train movements, rushed in to assist. Working together, the two RPF personnel successfully rescued the passenger, preventing what could have been a tragic mishap.
The individual was later identified as Jai Gopal Tiwari, 48, a resident of Khohi, Rajapur, Chitrakoot. He informed officers that his wife had already boarded the train, and in the rush to join her with luggage, he had fallen. His PNR was 3665225538, and he was travelling in coach S-2, berths 17-18, en route to Hazrat Nizamuddin.
After the rescue, the passenger was safely helped onto the train. The RPF’s timely intervention highlights the ongoing success of the ‘Mission Jeewan Raksha’ initiative, focused on ensuring passenger safety across India’s railway network.
