Spain: Man Rescued After Falling Seven Meters Down Cliff In Cullera
Cullera, Spain - July 08, 2025 Emergency services rescued a 69-year-old man on Tuesday morning after he fell down a steep, seven-meter slope in a difficult-to-access area near the Cullera lighthouse. The incident occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. in the area known as the “volcano,” between Brúixola Street and a nearby ravine. According to the Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Valencia, the man slipped and plunged down the slope. The rescue was carried out by helicopter, and the man was evacuated in extremely critical condition. Medical personnel from the SAMU unit treated him for a cranial trauma before transferring him to La Fe Hospital in Valencia. The emergency call was received at 9:59 a.m. through 112. Local residents who witnessed the fall alerted the authorities, prompting a swift and large-scale response. The rescue operation involved the Height Rescue Special Group (GERA), helicopter V-990, a doctor, a sergeant from Gandia station, and firefighters from Cullera. Officers from the Cullera Local Police and the Guardia Civil also responded. Dense vegetation and the rugged nature of the terrain complicated the rescue, requiring the use of the helicopter to evacuate the man from the inaccessible location. Authorities noted the dangers posed by certain natural coastal areas in the Valencia region and emphasized the need for extreme caution when walking through steep or poorly marked zones. The Cullera City Council praised the swift coordination of all involved services and reiterated the importance of acting with care in such environments.
