A miner was rescued after falling 50ft down a cliff while collecting gems in Myanmar.

Footage shows kindhearted locals using a rope as a makeshift harness to help the distressed worker in Hpakant, Kachin State, on June 23.

Local divers climbed down the line and swam across the water to reach the victim.

Reports said the villager sustained a head injury.

One witness said: 'He was lucky he fell into the water. He hit his head. It was difficult to save him.'

Hpakant is widely known for its jade mining industry and attracts thousands of informal diggers hoping to uncover valuable stones.

But the region is notorious for its dangerous and unregulated mining activities, especially during the rainy season when accidents and landslides are common.
