Suspect seizes police gun and shoots two officers during alcohol-fuelled rampage
This is the dramatic moment a suspect seized a police gun and shot two officers during a drunken rampage in Thailand.
Jirasak Loket, 26, sparked panic when he started screaming in an alcohol-fuelled outburst at a park near the Life at Ratchada condominium in Bangkok on Thursday.
Police Corporals Woradon Thirathanaboon and Jirayuth Rachart of the Sutthisan Police Station responded to the scene following a report from terrified residents.
They confronted Jirasak, who was found sitting in a pod chair in front of shops, but he merely smirked at them. When they tried to take him to the police station, he blew up and tackled one of the officers.
Bodycam footage shows Jirasak lunging at the law enforcer and snatching the firearm in his holster. The gun reportedly discharged twice as police wrestled the violent suspect on the ground, bashing him repeatedly on the face to loosen his grip on the weapon.
Jirasak was eventually subdued and hauled to the police station.
The officers suffered minor chest and arm injuries after the gunshots ricocheted off their bulletproof vests. They were taken to the Police General Hospital for treatment.
A Sutthisan Police Station spokesman said: 'The suspect had no criminal background and his drug test returned negative. He was charged with attempted murder of an officer.'
Condominium residents said Jirasak was a former security guard in the building who resigned on May 1. He was frequently seen loitering in the area.
