Drunk tourist strips off and dances naked on street in Phuket
This is the bizarre moment a drunk tourist stripped off and danced on a street in Phuket.
The rampaging holidaymaker discarded his clothes and began singing and chanting near a mosque, on April 30.
Footage shows him screaming at passing cars before hopping, spinning around, and staggering in front of baffled locals.
He then knelt on the ground to prostrate himself before carrying on with his off-key singing.
Police arrived after being notified by worried residents. They cuffed the man and took him to the Choeng Thale District Police Station to calm down.
Naked tourists have become an increasingly common sight in Phuket, with the country's visa-free policy and cheap alcohol and cannabis attracting large numbers of holidaymakers.
Just a day earlier, another drunk individual was seen walking completely naked along a bridge on the same island.
On December 7, a seemingly dazed man sat without any clothes at a brightly lit patio of a roadside shop. He was later escorted away by security guards.
The once-pristine island has been marred by over-tourism as the Thai government implements a visa-free scheme to boost revenue following the barren pandemic years.
The island saw 800,000 foreign visitors last year alone.
However, angry locals claim the push for tourist dollars has attracted crowds of 'low-quality' visitors.
There are also fears that the island has become an enclave of criminal activity, with police unable to control street fights and more organised ruffians setting up rackets among local businesses.
Phuket officials said they are implementing tighter immigration controls and screening processes amid a wave of drug-related crimes and illegal activities on the island.
