An injured horse that was stuck on the ground and unable to stand was rescued by vets and firefighters in California.

The 38-year-old animal collapsed and could not get up despite the owner's attempts, prompting an emergency call in Pinon Hills on July 21.

Footage shows fire crews and the Advanced Equine and Small Ruminant Veterinary Services team setting up a tripod along with a sling to hoist the creature upright.

San Bernardino County personnel used ropes and a Becker harness to carefully lift it off the ground.

Medics evaluated its condition and used a glide board to support circulation and realign its body.

After showing signs of strength and movement, the mare stood without aid and was closely observed before being guided home.

The relieved owner thanked emergency responders who helped save the beloved pet.
