A snake was captured at a military air base in the Philippines just hours before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr was set to fly to India.

The reptile was discovered in a grassy area at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, Manila, on the morning of Monday, August 4.

Officials reported that the snake was moving among the shrubs just a few metres away from the aircraft designated to transport the president for his upcoming state visit to India this week.

Footage shows emergency responders carefully attempting to secure the serpent inside a sack.

One member of the Air Force was bitten during the incident and received an anti-tetanus injection, as the animal's bite was confirmed to be non-venomous.

Philippine Air Force chief Arthur Cordura said: 'It's not a cause for concern and we guarantee that we keep watch.'

He also noted that this was not the first time a snake had been found on the base.

Marcos Jr is scheduled to visit India from August 4 to 8, responding to an official invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr, known by his nickname 'Bongbong', is the son of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr, whose decades-long reign was marked by cronyism, rampant corruption, and human rights abuses.

They allegedly plundered more than 10 billion USD from the state to fund a life of opulence - pushing the country into extreme poverty from which it has still not recovered.

Despite being run out of the country, the Marcos family, headed by matriarch Imelda Marcos who is known for her collection of 3,000 pairs of shoes, successfully returned through a well-oiled misinformation campaign on social media that convinced largely uneducated locals to vote for Bongbong.
