A cloud burst triggered flash floods and a massive debris slide in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village on Tuesday.
The forces of the Indian Army, the State Disaster Response Force, and the National Disaster Response Force, along with other rescue teams, are on their way to the spot. The region is situated 10 kilometres away from the popular tourist site, Harshil.
According to authorities, the flood was triggered by a cloud burst in the region, and the area had not been evacuated. “The village was on a higher elevation, but the area was home to commercial activities such as hotels and shops. We have yet to ascertain the losses, but preliminary reports indicate severe property damage,” said the District Magistrate, Prashant Arya.
SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said their team, stationed 20 kilometres away, is on the way. The subdistrict magistrate of Bhatwari, Shalini Negi, said that they anticipate loss of human lives. “We are yet to get a comprehensive assessment, and we are rushing to the area,” she said.
