Stray monkey rescued after suffering electric shock
A stray monkey was rescued after being electrocuted on an electric cable in Thailand.
The crab-eating macaque sparked alarm when it tried to climb up a luxury condominium in Samut Prakan on Thursday morning.
Security guards tried to chase it away, but it continued scaling the five-storey building before suffering an electric shock when it grabbed onto a wire.
CCTV footage shows the primate plummeting onto a parked sedan, shattering the rear windscreen and denting its roof. The injured monkey then hobbled away and continued its journey to the rooftop, where it was later cornered by animal rescuers.
It took an hour before the specialists sedated the simian with a tranquiliser gun. They caught it when it collapsed and landed on a bush next to the condo.
A Bang Pu Subdistrict Municipality spokesman said: 'The macaque was placed in a cage and released at a conservation center in Sri Racha District, Chonburi Province.'
Thailand is grappling with a growing macaque population, with thousands macaques roaming cities, temples, and tourist spots. Tourists feeding the monkeys have made them increasingly bold and aggressive, prompting frequent capture-and-relocation operations.
