Man dead, 2 injured as tree crashes on bike in Delhi's Kalkaji amid heavy rain
Dranatic cctv footage show tree collapse on the middle of the road
A large tree fell on a bike in Delhi’s Kalkaji area amid heavy rain, killing one person and injuring two others. A vehicle nearby was also hit in the accident.
Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR, parts of North India, and Mumbai threw life out of gear on Thursday, with the weather department issuing a red alert for the national capital. Severe waterlogging choked key stretches across Delhi and left several underpasses flooded ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
However, flight operations were normal, the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport said in an update. "Delhi is experiencing inclement weather conditions. However, operations are currently normal," the advisory said.
During the 24-hour period which ended at 8.30 am on Thursday, Delhi's primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded 13.1 mm of rainfall, Aya Nagar logged 57.4 mm, Palam 49.4 mm, Lodhi Road 12 mm, Pragati Maidan 9 mm, and Pusa 5 mm, according to the IMD.
The rain brought down the minimum temperature in Delhi to 23.6 degrees Celsius, 3.2 notches below normal. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.
