Locals struggled through a flooded village after the Ganges River burst its banks in India.

Heavy downpours in the catchment areas of Nepal caused a rise in the water levels of major rivers, including the Ganga, Bagmati, Kosi, Punpun, and Ghaghra, which are now flowing above danger level in several regions.

Dramatic footage shows residents, including children and pensioners, wading through inundated streets in Bhagalpur, Bihar, on Tuesday, August 12. Some were also seen using makeshift boats to navigate the area.

Floodwaters have reportedly swept away hundreds of homes, displaced livestock, and destroyed crops.

At least two residents, a mother and her daughter, tragically died in the flood, with reports stating the mum was trying to save her child from drowning.

Relief camps have been established to accommodate displaced villagers. Community kitchens are distributing dry ration packets and polythene sheets to those affected.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reported that boats have been deployed across flood-hit districts, with boat ambulances offering medical assistance.
