A Chinese fugitive accused of defrauding his countrymen was arrested in Thailand.

The suspect, identified by police only as 'Long', allegedly tricked Chinese investors into funding a fake durian farm development in Chanthaburi, eastern Thailand.

He allegedly fled to Thai 'Sin City' Pattaya, a notorious hub for Chinese criminals, with fugitives and fraudsters hiding in the city's bustling tourism scene. He then travelled across the country to the northern province of Chiang Mai, where he was detained by police on Tuesday.

Footage shows officers arresting Long, seen in the video wearing eyeglasses and a grey polo shirt, at a fuel station in the Mae Rim district.

Police Colonel Jiraphong Rujiradamrongchai of the Immigration Division 3 said Chinese authorities had earlier issued an arrest warrant and requested Long's residence permit be revoked.

He said: 'We revoked his permission to stay in the country and sent him to the Immigration Detention Centre in Bangkok, where he is awaiting deportation back to his country following legal procedures.'

Police Major General Chairit Anurit, commander of Immigration Bureau Division 3, said: 'This arrest is in line with the policies of the National Police Chief and the Immigration Bureau to crack down on transnational crimes and foreign offenders in Thailand, to protect peace and order, national security, and maintain Thailand's reputation.'
