WASHINGTON – U.S. Soldiers from the 104th Support Maintenance Company and the 273rd Military Police Company joined patrolling operations Thursday as part of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force near the National Mall and Union Station.

Approximately 800 National Guard service members make up Joint Task Force–D.C. (JTF-DC), which provides assistance with crowd management, perimeter control, logistics and communications in support of local law enforcement. The initiative is designed to maintain public safety and ensure secure, accessible public spaces in the nation’s capital.

Many of the Guard personnel serving on the task force are District residents themselves, strengthening community trust and building on long-standing relationships between law enforcement and citizens. Their presence highlights the National Guard’s dual role of supporting national defense and contributing to local community safety.
