Buy video

As the hot dry and drought weather continues rivers like the River Piddle in Dorset are down almost at a dribble.

Sometimes called the River Trent or North River the Piddle and later flows into the River Frome.

In these upper stretches the river is pretty well at its lowest level according to recordings made by the Environment Agency.

There are some 96 monitoring stations on the counties rivers.

With three dedicated to the River Piddle itself.

The River Piddle rises at four major springs near Alton St. Pancras. Flowing south then turning east at Puddletown and after that joins the River Frome at Wareham entering the sea at Poole Harbour.

Some local villages still carry the name Piddle but rather like Puddletown its a corruption of the name Piddle.
