Some of The First Afghans to Arrive in the UK at a small Army Camp at Chickerell Dorset UK December 2023.
The Chickerell Camp near Weymouth in Dorset was being used to accommodate those who had supported the UK government and military in Afghanistan.
The camp is a small military one generally used for training with its own shooting range attached. Announcing use of the base in December 2023, Dorset Council said men, women and children, that have the right to remain in the UK, would be housed there for up to six weeks at a time while more permanent Ministry of Defence homes were found for them.
They were here under the the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) for Afghan citizens. Their families would have worked for or with the UK government and armed forces in "exposed or meaningful roles".
The site was being used as a temporarily location until more permanent accommodation could be found for them.
