Surprising number of water drops on a coin

Buy video

How many water drops can you fit on a coin? Lots of them! Water molecules have high intermolecular forces and so have a high surface tension. This surface tension produces a skin which causes the water bubble or dome. Eventually the water breaks through and runs off.
The video was captured in slow motion to capture the motion of the water dome on top of the coin. The drops were released rapidly using a burette. Filmed by Jacob Strickling creator of the popular YouTube channel 'Make Science Fun'.
