Rocks crash down mountain during landslide in Laos
This is the dramatic moment rocks crashed down a mountain during a landslide in Laos.
Footage shows mud, trees and rocks tumbling down near homes in Luang Prabang at around 11 am today.
Residents yelled in alarm as chunks of loose earth collapsed, stopping short of their houses.
Local media reported that the area in Ban Houay Keo has been battered by heavy rains from Typhoon Kajiki for several days.
Vietnam was recently battered by Typhoon Kajiki, which made landfall on Monday, leaving at least seven people dead, one missing, and 34 others injured. Officials said more than 7,000 homes were damaged during the storm.
In Thailand, officials said six people were killed and three others were missing from landslides.
The Thai Meteorological Department today said a monsoon trough across northern Thailand stretched into a low-pressure cell over northern Laos and upper Vietnam.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Centre forecasted more rainfall over Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam over the weekend as another weather system, designated as tropical depression 20W, moved westward across the region.
