Roads submerged as heavy rain triggers floods in northern Thailand
Roads were left underwater after heavy rain triggered widespread flooding in northern Thailand.
Drone footage captured the extent of the inundation brought by Tropical Storm Nongfah in Phetchabun on Monday, September 1.
Authorities reported that as of 6:30 am, small vehicles were still unable to pass through highways in Lom Sak district due to high water levels.
The Pa Sak River continued to rise, spilling over into central areas of the municipality, including homes and commercial zones. In some places, flood levels reportedly reached up to 5ft.
Phetchabun Governor Saranyu Meethongkham visited the affected areas and instructed local agencies to provide full support to residents. He also urged people to relocate their belongings to safer places.
The Thai Meteorological Department on Sunday said that Tropical Storm Nongfah had weakened into a strong low-pressure system moving into northern Thailand.
Combined with an intensifying southwest monsoon, the weather system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across 43 provinces over the next one to two days.
Authorities warned residents to constantly monitor weather updates.
