Storyline: Southern Chinese tech hub sees explosive growth in lithium-ion battery energy storage cabinet export [Voice_over] The southern Chinese city of Shenzhen is charging ahead in the global new energy market, with an explosive growth in exports of lithium-ion battery energy storage cabinets. According to the latest customs data, in the first seven months of the year, Shenzhen's Dachan Bay Port had exported more than 500 million U.S. dollars-worth of lithium-ion battery storage cabinets, a more than 750 percent increase from last year. On this day, workers are loading 238 lithium-ion battery energy storage cabinets onto a ship destined for Chile's Puerto Angamos. [Sound_bite] Wu Jiabo, project manager, international freight forwarding company in Shanghai: "Our energy storage cabinet business has expanded by 50 percent year on year since January. Two additional batches, totaling over 400 containers, are scheduled for export via Dachan Bay Port in September." From January to July this year, Shenzhen exported more than 6 billion U.S dollars-worth of lithium batteries, up nearly 40 percent year on year. At a factory in Shenzhen, production lines for lithium batteries are running at full capacity, with a daily shipment of 20,000 units. To keep pace with strong market demand, they plan to scale up production with investments into their workforce and equipment. [Sound_bite] Chen Haibo, head, lithium battery company in Shenzhen: "By the end of July, our total export value has exceeded 51 million U.S. dollars, representing a year-on-year increase of over 30 percent. Even with production running at full capacity, our orders have been scheduled through March of next year. Since the beginning of this year, we have expanded our workforce by more than 600 employees and invested over 4 million U.S. dollars in new equipment." [Voice_over] According to customs officials, the European Union, the United States and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations were the top three export destinations for Shenzhen lithium batteries during the first seven months of the year.
