Storyline: Camel milk fuels economic boom in Xinjiang's Altay [Voice_over] This is where it all began… This centuries-old rhythm is the heartbeat of an economic transformation. These animals were a symbol of survival for generations. Today, they represent a new path to prosperity for families across Altay. For herders like Bahatynurl Bikan, her family's nearly 500 camels are more than a tradition. They are the catalysts of an economic revolution. [Stand_up] Wang Qiao, Reporter: "You see, for herders like the them beside me, that revolution starts every morning at sunrise with the simple, vital act of milking." [Voice_over] Locals have been milking camels and raising cattle for hundreds of years. [Sound_bite] Bahatynurl Bikan, Local Herder: "Our family used to raise cattle. We started raising camels in 2011. Our income in the first year was over 100,000 yuan! After more than a decade of hard work, our annual income is roughly one to two million yuan." [Voice_over] How did this dramatic change happen? The answer lies in a blend of tradition and technology. Local camel milk companies provided herders with milking machines to ensure purity and efficiency. [Sound_bite] Bahatynurl Bikan, Local Herder: "It used to be all manual milking before. Now, the local camel milk company has given us milking machines. It saves time and effort, and it prevents pollution." [Voice_over] Bahatynurl Bikan's family provides about 400 kilograms of camel milk every month to a local factory. But the real change happens after collection, where quality is paramount. [Sound_bite] Fan Xin, Office Director, Wang Yuan Biotechnology Group: "Our collectors visit herders daily. We test for freshness, adulteration, and pathogens on the spot. After that, the milk goes to our plant for a comprehensive 128-item inspection. It can only reach the production line after these tests." [Voice_over] Here, cutting-edge technology like low-temperature freeze-drying locks in the milk's vital nutrients, and turns it into powder and other products for the global market. This is more than production. It's a lifeline for the entire community. And the impact is staggering. There are over 36,000 camels in Fuhai County alone. Supply agreements with over 1,000 herding households have created remarkable success stories. Among them, 257 families have annual incomes exceeding 1 million yuan, which is over 140,000 dollars. The highest earners have reached 3.65 million yuan, which is over 513,000 dollars. The success is built on an innovative model. The local government and companies provided technical support, guaranteed purchases, and offered interest-free loans. This model has boosted the average annual income of over 20,000 herder households across several provinces by more than 120,000 yuan, and created 23,000 jobs. Its profound impact earned it a spot among the United Nations' 100 Global Poverty Reduction Best Practices. [Stand_up] Wang Qiao, Reporter: "There you go. Well, the goal is never to replace the old ways but to empower it. Here in Altay, they haven’t just found a new market, but they’ve found a way to ensure their heritage doesn’t just survive. It thrives." [Voice_over] Camel's milk is the region's white gold. It has built a bridge from ancient pastures to the global economy. It’s a story of unity between the past and the future. It is a testament to how nurturing tradition can cultivate the most sustainable prosperity. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
