Chinese police officer brings out-of-control vehicle to a halt after driver loses consciousness
On the afternoon of October 20, in Wuhan, Hubei, on the elevated Guanggu Avenue, an electric vehicle lost control and crashed into the roadside guardrail but continued moving forward. In a critical moment, a passing off-duty police officer took decisive action and forced the runaway vehicle to stop.
According to Officer Shen Peng, he was driving his private car past the scene at around 4 pm when he noticed the unusual behaviour of the electric vehicle. As he drove alongside, he saw that the driver's window was open, the driver had wide eyes, his head was tilted backward, and his hands were not on the steering wheel, indicating the vehicle was out of control.
At this point, the electric vehicle was about to leave the exit ramp, and if it entered the main road, the consequences could have been disastrous. Acting swiftly, Shen Peng successfully forced the vehicle to stop from the side.
After the vehicle was stopped, Shen and other passersby called 110 (police) and 120 (ambulance). Soon, police and medical personnel arrived on the scene. After some shouting, the driver, who had fallen ill, gradually regained some consciousness. Together, they lifted the driver onto a stretcher, and the ambulance took him to the hospital for treatment.
The rescued driver's wife, Ms. Zhao, explained that her husband suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes and had a medical episode. She expressed deep gratitude, stating that without the officer's timely intervention, she couldn't imagine what the outcome might have been.
