A massive wildfire swept across the hills of Haute-Corse on October 5, 2025, destroying up to 440 hectares of vegetation. Footage filmed by Chloe Olmeta Giglioli shows fierce orange flames racing along the ridges beneath a bright blue sky, sending thick black smoke into the air.

Two separate blazes broke out in the Saint-Florent and Oletta areas, burning between 400 and 440 hectares of dense maquis scrub. Strong winds intensified the fires, which started in the late morning and spread rapidly across the dry terrain.

More than 180 firefighters battled the flames, supported by aerial units that included two Dash aircraft, two Canadairs, and a red helicopter performing repeated water drops.

Authorities confirmed that by October 6 the fires had been fully contained. While some material damage was reported, no injuries occurred and nearby homes were spared.
