VARIOUS OF CLOSED SHOPS ON DESERTED STREETS LEADING TO IBRAHIMI MOSQUE HEBRON, PALESTINE - OCTOBER 8, 2025: Israeli authorities closed the Ibrahimi Mosque to Muslim worshippers in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron for two days for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. According to a statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, the Israeli military blocked access to all corridors, courtyards, and sections of the mosque on Wednesday and Thursday, preventing Muslim worshippers from entering. It also intensified military measures and closed all checkpoints and electronic gates leading to the Ibrahimi Mosque to secure settlers’ celebrations of the Sukkot holiday inside the mosque and its courtyards. Amjed Karajah, Director General of Hebron’s Endowments, condemned the Israeli decision, saying the closure, justified under the pretext of security for the Sukkot festival, was a provocative violation. He described it as a clear attack on the sanctity of the mosque and an assault on Muslims’ right to access their place of worship. The Israeli military also imposed a two-day curfew in Hebron’s Old City neighborhoods of Jaber, Salaymeh, and Wadi al-Hussein citing the same security concerns related to the holiday. This year, Sukkot began on October 6 and will last for one week.
