Bus topples over while carrying passengers through fast-flowing river
This is the dramatic moment a jeepney bus toppled over while carrying passengers through a fast-flowing river.
The public transport vehicle attempted to cross the strong current, only to lose balance and plunge into the water midway in Rizal, the Philippines.
Footage captured by Poy Phitz shows men clinging to the sides of the four-wheeler, with one sitting on the roof as the vehicle accelerated on July 26.
Moments later, it tilted and overturned, prompting frightened onlookers to scream while the passengers jumped off the coach to safety, narrowly avoiding being crushed by its weight.
The driver can be seen hurriedly climbing out of his seat, escaping just as the vehicle fell onto its side.
Locals living nearby who witnessed the incident immediately ran over to help, holding onto ropes attached to the vehicle to tow it back to the riverbank.
The driver and passengers did not sustain any injuries. The jeepney was later successfully towed out of the water.
Poy said: 'It would be a big help for everyone if the government built a bridge so we could prevent incidents like this.'
The Philippines has long struggled with ageing infrastructure, with many roads and bridges falling short of safety standards.
Ongoing issues within the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have seen private contractors linked to inflated costs and stolen funds, leaving projects unfinished or poorly built and raising safety concerns.
