Resident risks his life crawling on rope above fast-flowing river
This is the nerve-wracking moment a resident was seen risking his life by crawling along a rope above a fast-flowing river to reach the other side of the bank.
Footage shows the man clinging to the metal cable as he cautiously inches across the raging surge in Sultan Kudarat, the Philippines.
He can be seen hanging onto the cable, balancing himself as he pulls his weight toward the line.
An onlooker said: 'We have to crawl along the cable each time the river overflows because the old hanging bridge collapsed a long time ago due to storms and flash floods we experienced. When the water is not that high, motorcycles and other cars cross through the riverbed.'
Residents are urging authorities to take action and build a proper bridge to prevent incidents that might lead to injuries or someone's death.
The Philippines has long struggled with ageing infrastructure, with many roads and bridges falling short of safety standards. Ongoing issues within the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have seen private contractors linked to inflated costs and stolen funds, leaving projects unfinished or poorly built and raising safety concerns.
