Beach worker plunges from parasail on notorious Thai beach
This is the dramatic moment a beach worker plunged from a parasail on a notorious beach in Thailand.
Panupong Suwan, 27, was flying with the Russian tourist when they were hit by strong winds off the resort island of Phuket on Thursday.
Footage shows the parachute plunging rapidly as a gust flipped the canopy sideways.
Panupong was seen falling some 20ft into the sea as speedboats raced over to rescue him. The Russian holidaymaker was left airborne alone and was later tugged to safety.
Both were returned to Kata Beach, with Panupong suffering several bruises.
Police Colonel Khun Det Na Nongkhai, superintendent of Karon district station, said: 'The fall from the parasailing boat was caused by a strong wind. The operator doesn't know the name of the tourist who boarded with him, but believes he was Russian. However, he doesn't hold a grudge because it was an unexpected accident.
'The victim, named Panupong Suwan, 27, suffered bruises and no fractures. The fall wasn't very high.
'This case is being handled by the company's insurance. There are no casualties and no legal action will be taken.'
In 2017, Australian tourist Roger John Hussey fell to his death at the same beach when his harness reportedly came loose mid-flight. Volunteers rushed him to Patong Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Beach worker Rungroj Rakscheep and boat captain Montien Chandeng were both arrested and charged with 'recklessness leading to death'.
