PROTESTERS HITTING AND PUSHING POLICE BARRICADES AS POLICE SPRAY TEAR GAS (TWO SHOTS) JAKARTA, INDONESIA - OCT. 20, 2025: Hundreds of Indonesian students staged a demonstration near the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Oct. 20, on the first anniversary of President Prabowo Subianto’s assumption of office.
The students, representing various alliances, carried banners, posters and lit flares to voice their dissatisfaction with what they described as a government not prioritizing citizens’ interests.
During the rally, protesters called on authorities to immediately review and reassess public programs they say are harmful, including the Free Nutritious Meal Program, which was criticized following reports of food poisoning among participating schoolchildren.
Tensions rose as some demonstrators threw objects and tried to break through police barricades, demanding to approach the State Palace and meet with government officials.
