A 300-year-old wooden canoe has gone on display at a Buddhist temple.

Footage shows the centuries-old, still-intact Siamese warship laid to rest at Wat San Phanthai Norasing in Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand.

The vessel was unearthed from saline soil near the temple grounds, forming part of a wider archaeological site in the Phanthai Norasing sub-district.

A separate ancient shipwreck, dating back to the 7th–8th centuries, was also discovered nearby in a shrimp-farm area about eight kilometres from the current coastline.

The vessel's timber was carbon-dated and found to be around 1,000 years old, and it is believed to have been constructed 300 years ago to carry Siamese soldiers across the Gulf of Thailand.

Historians note that Thailand's coastal plains were once an important stop along international sea-trade routes.
