South Korea: China presents BeiDou-based solutions for global navigation at UN GNSS meeting
Storyline: A Chinese delegation elaborated on China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) at the 19th Meeting of the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG-19), held from October 19 to 24, 2025, in Busan, Republic of Korea. The conference, hosted by the Korea Aerospace Administration on behalf of the South Korean government, was conducted in a hybrid format, bringing together global and regional satellite navigation system providers, UN agencies, and international organizations to discuss key developments and cooperation in the field. The Chinese delegation, comprising more than 40 representatives and experts, participated in all agenda discussions. They presented the latest progress in the development of the BeiDou system and offered Chinese proposals on emerging concepts, such as expanding satellite-based applications and establishing a lunar time reference framework - initiatives aimed at advancing the future of global satellite navigation. To foster a more orderly and transparent environment for global navigation system development, the Chinese delegation took an active role in revising the Providers' Forum charter documents. These efforts helped safeguard fairness and equity within the ICG framework and protect China's development interests. Their contributions were widely recognized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and international experts. "BeiDou now serves all of humanity. In ancient times, the compass guided people—a contribution of Chinese wisdom to humankind. Today, as modern BeiDou and aerospace engineers, we aim to ensure that anyone, anywhere in the world, can enjoy high-tech services from China's space endeavors," said Lin Baojun, chief designer for the BeiDou-3 system. The six-day meeting gathered more than 300 participants from ICG member states, satellite navigation providers, and institutions such as the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. They engaged in extensive exchanges on emerging technologies, international cooperation, and the shared future of global navigation satellite systems.
